In August 2022, Hickman Mills C-1 School District launched our inaugural Skilled Trades I class for 9th and 10th graders. While we do not currently have a traditional “shop” type space for the class to happen in, we are evidence of “where there’s a will, there’s a way.” We have retro-fitted a school library space to include shop tables, small power tools, hand tools, and a whole lot of enthusiasm! Currently, there are 18 students in the class learning the basics around construction careers, sharpening their math skills, practicing safety standards, and building small projects. We can’t wait to see where this program takes us in the future!
